Look Forward

“Fix your eyes forward on what you can do, not back on what you cannot change.” by Tom Clancy, Author

It is only natural that your reaction, action or inaction towards certain situation is shaped by your pass experienced in our life. At a couple of points during your life there have been times when it felt incredible to be alive and some other time your feeling is just down heel. This is due to the influence of cyclical fluctuation of Qi in your BaZi, and influence of your environment, be it the people around you or the Feng Shui factors that is affecting you.

Whatever the feeling is, time wait for no one so fixed your eye forward. A good dose of motivation will help you look forward each day.

In the study of Chinese Metaphysics, everything involves balance of the yin and yang natures. Depends on the composition of your BaZi chart’s elementals value, you may either need the yin or the yang motivation or both. We always want to achieve balance in life. Too much or too little of one thing is not good.

This is also true in the fundamental concept of yin and yang energy. While yin and yang are the opposites of each other, they are interdependence. Nothing can be totally yin or totally yang. A state of total yin is reached, yang energy begins to grow. They constantly transform into each other. Within yin there is yang and vice versa.

The Cosmic Trinity governs the Heaven Luck – Time, Man Luck – Your Action and Earth Luck – outside forces i.e. Feng Shui. While you may not be able to easily control the time factor that is your luck cycle or the outside forces, what you can control is your emotion and action which comes from your Man Luck. It is the most powerful force that you can always utilise. Your emotion is yin and your action is yang. When we talk about motivation, usually it is to raise your emotion to an upbeat state. Or if you are a person who always angered easily, motivation then helps you achieve a neutral level.

There are a few things that can keep you motivated. Yin involves intrinsic motivation while yang relates to extrinsic motivation.

Yin represents passiveness, stability, quietness and steadiness. Hence, intrinsic motivation comes from within. It is about doing things that you enjoy or you like. You do not feel the need to put in effort to do it and this activity itself is an enjoyment and the reward. Think of something you love to do – playing computer games, guitar, cooking or painting. Usually you will enjoy doing these activities first and delay other chores. The trick is to do these activities more often. It will build up your self-esteem. It will make you feel happy and good about yourself.

It can be a powerful force for achievement, if you can incorporates this into your career choice or lifestyles. Think of it this way, when you engaged yourself on something that give you intrinsic motivation, you will find;
It is fairly easy to maintain your focus because the task requires little effort.
You can continuously do it well or even better because you love to do it.
You enjoy doing it and will do it whether or not you get paid or not.

However, this kind of activity is very susceptible to your moods swing. When you’re feeling cheerful and upbeat, you’re more likely to enjoy what you’re working on and do a good job than when you’re feeling low. There are some tasks that are simply no way you’re going to enjoy them.

This is where yang extrinsic motivation comes in. Yang represents loud, active, action and mobility. Hence, extrinsic motivation comes from outside. This is the kind of motivation that gets you going when the going get tough because you know you will be rewarded at the end of the day. At a higher level, this is about setting a goal that will give you some form of achievement in the future if you’re ambitious enough. Or at a day to day level, you may just want to pluck yourself out from bed early in the morning to work in mundane and boring job because the paycheque feeds your daily expenses.

Extrinsic motivation can be look upon as shallow or false to some people but it can be a powerful force too. Most tough tasks become bearable when you have something to look forward to especially if the incentive is high.

Extrinsic motivation may make you react as such:
You are always tempted to procrastinate on a difficult job all the time.
If you are not ambitious person, you will do the task with a high enough standard to get the reward at the end of the day without much care for excellent.
You are much more reluctant to do it if there was no reward.

External motivation is easier to produce compare to intrinsic motivation. If you have a string of uninteresting tasks you can promise yourself a reward at the end of the task e.g. have a nice dinner out, indulge in your favourite cookies or ice-cream or watch a movie.

By focusing on the goal or reward rather than the process, the task seems easier.

A good healthy chart with a smooth flow and balance of yin and yang denotes the person is motivated and ambitious. This type of people will hand in an excellent job whether the job is easy or tough to them. Besides enjoying what they do, they also want to achieve a goal or get the rewards and establish a good reputation.

The following are the yin and yang Heavenly Stems for your easy reference.

Hehe! Today my motivation is my Indirect Wealth Star appearing on the Day Stem. It is an easy task with a small outlay of capital. It is called the probability game. The reward is high. Warren Buffet said “Be fearful when others are greedy and be greedy when others are fearful”. Too bad, in this game everyone is greedy all the time. I cannot find anyone who is fearful yet. But then, it always feel good to keep your pet project on date selection research going… :P
